Antique Handmade Sultanabad Persian Rug :: 8'x11'
Antique Handmade Sultanabad Persian Rug :: 8'x11'
Handmade, village-made in the early 20th century (circa 1910–1930) in the Iranian region of Sultanabad (now Arak), often classified as a Mahal/Sultanabad rug. 100% wool pile with natural vegetable dyes. Medium to low pile.
This exquisite antique Persian carpet showcases a classic navy blue field adorned with an intricate central medallion and flowing floral arabesques, featuring stylized palmettes, vines, leaves, and multicolored blossoms in rich accents of coral red, soft blues, golds, ivories, and greens. The design draws from traditional Persian motifs, with an open yet densely detailed composition typical of Mahal weavings from the Arak/Sultanabad area during the export revival period. It is framed by a striking wide red/coral main border filled with repeating floral vines, cartouches, and complementary guard borders, creating a balanced and elegant aesthetic that was highly sought after in early 20th-century Western markets.
